Nike is introducing the Kobe 10 Protro more than a decade after the original performance model debuted, bringing meaningful modern updates to one of Kobe Bryant’s most celebrated basketball silhouettes while preserving the mindset behind its design. The result is a lightweight, responsive platform built around speed, precision and control.
The original Kobe 10 arrived in 2015 as a breakthrough in lightweight performance, pairing advanced cushioning, traction and support in a streamlined shape. Its Protro successor (short for “performance retro”) builds on that foundation across the upper, midsole and outsole, keeping the shoe’s performance identity intact for today’s athletes.
At the top, a redesigned engineered mesh upper improves breathability and flexibility while maintaining the secure lockdown players expect. A widened forefoot and strategically placed reinforcements add comfort and mobility without giving up support during hard cuts and transitions.
Underfoot, Cushlon 3.0 foam works with a full-length Zoom Strobel in place of the original Lunarlon and heel Air Zoom setup. The updated platform is designed to provide a more responsive ride, improved energy return and a consistent court feel across the entire foot.
Nike Sport Research Lab movement data also informed a reworked outsole, while the traction pattern remains rooted in the principles that defined the original Kobe 10. That foundation is intended to deliver confident grip for quick cuts, explosive takeoffs and rapid changes of direction.
The carbon fiber forefoot wing returns unchanged for lateral stability, alongside Kobe’s hidden “Endure and Conquer” message. Extensive athlete wear testing and feedback shaped each revision, ensuring the Protro updates serve a functional purpose while carrying Kobe’s legacy forward for a new generation of players.
When is the Kobe 10 Protro releasing?
The Kobe 10 Protro debuts through SNKRS and Nike’s online store beginning with the Halo colorway. The first release is set for August 23, 2026. Additional engineered mesh editions will follow throughout the 2026 release window. The 2026 mesh launches are expected between August and December, while Flyknit versions with ZoomX foam are scheduled for 2027.
