Le Coq Sportif Footwear and Apparel Brand Files for Bankruptcy

According to multiple industry sources, the French apparel and footwear manufacturer Le Coq Sportif has recently gone bankrupt. All sponsorship contracts with international teams (such as the Olympic Federation) have been canceled.

Le Coq Sportif is filing for bankruptcy. The news was first reported by Fashion United at the end of 2024. It was later confirmed by publications such as Versus, NSS Sports and Footy Headlines. The company is currently attempting restructuring and looking for new investors. They are trying to protect the 330 employees and the hundreds of jobs indirectly generated by the brand.

During the Paris Olympic Games (in May 2024), Le Coq Sportif also received a loan of 2.9 million euros from the organizing committee. As of September 30, 2024, the company still owed 150,000 euros from this loan. The company had also recently received a loan of 12.5 million euros. The loan was granted by the French government through BPI France Assurance Export. Furthermore, the brand is also involved in a lawsuit with the French Rugby Federation for a total of 5.3 million euros.

When is Le Coq Sportif expected to cease releasing new products?

The Airesis Group acquired a majority stake in 2005 and currently holds around 75% of the company. The annual report published at the end of September shows losses of 18.2 million euros, significantly higher than the 10.5 million euros lost during the same period last year. The clothing and footwear manufacturer has terminated all contracts and sponsorships for teams, including OGC Nice and ES Troyes AC. The brand is regarded as a pioneer on the football pitch, giving fans memorable moments long before giants such as Nike, Adidas or Puma came to dominate the sport.
