Overkill in Berlin celebrated 20 years since opening its first physical store last year. To mark the occasion, Overkill is also launching a new collaboration with Adidas Originals made up of three different models (and three friends & family versions). Even though the anniversary took place last year, they joked on their blog about the delay in releasing the anniversary pack.
The first Overkill store opened in September 2003 in Berlin and quickly became one of the most important sneaker stores in Germany. The collaboration with Adidas aims to remind us of everything that has happened over the past 20 years through their perspective.
The Overkill team chose the ZX6000 model, considering it to be one of the least popular silhouettes in the Adidas ZX line, especially when compared to the ZX8000, the most popular ZX model.
When is the Overkill x Adidas Originals 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Pack releasing?
The Overkill x adidas ZX8000 pair uses blue for its detailing, as this is one of the favorite colors of Marc, the founder of Overkill. The upper combines blue with shades of grey and white with a color scheme similar to the ZX4000 and ZX5000 models. The shoe is constructed using glossy mesh and premium suede, an upgrade over the models with synthetic suede. The heel features the text “20” in a graffiti-style font, similar to the font used for the Overkill logo, along with the quotation marks that also appear in the logo. The same text is also present on the tongue label, overlaid on the store’s logo. In addition to the quotation marks on the Torsion plate on the outsole, one last detail appears on the inside, where you’ll find the text “The Best of Overkill”, a slogan inspired by the adidas Equipment line.
For the second model in this pack, Marc chose the classic Equipment Guidance. Adidas allowed them to pick any model from the archive, and since the EQT Guidance is one of Marc’s favorite silhouettes, this choice really doesn’t surprise us.
The Overkill x Adidas EQT Guidance pair comes with an upper in tones of grey, white, and orange. The orange color was chosen as a tribute to the Adidas X-Series from 1992, according to the article on Overkill’s blog. The upper is made of white mesh and grey-toned nubuck, with premium materials used throughout. Just like on the first pair, both the “20” text and the quotation marks from the Overkill logo appear on the heel, with these details also present on the tongue label. In addition, on the inside we once again find the previously mentioned “The Best of Overkill” label.
The third model in the pack was chosen with current fashion and sneaker trends in mind. Y2K running sneakers are the best sellers (regardless of brand), which is why Overkill is choosing the adidas Spiritain 2000 as the final pair in the anniversary pack.
Although the chosen model follows current trends and has the final say over the silhouettes used, Marc decided he wanted to bring an old model out of the adidas archive instead of using a current one for this collaboration. When he came across the Spiritain 2000 in the archives, he learned that the model had only been sold for a short period in America and Asia. The adidas archive offers a wide variety of running sneakers, but many of the models in the archive have never been released in a retro version. With the launch of the Overkill x adidas Spiritain 2000 collaboration, the team from Germany is trying to position this running sneaker in the lifestyle segment. The shoe is constructed from mesh and nubuck, using a bright green as the contrasting color. This pair also features 3M reflective elements, along with the same branding details found on the other two pairs.
The collaboration between Overkill and adidas Originals is launching on March 23, 2024 during the anniversary event in Berlin, as well as on the website (only the quantities remaining after the event). A limited number of grey and black friends & family pairs will also be available during the anniversary event.
