Nike and Phaidon Press Announce Nike Football Boots Book

Nike and Phaidon Press have teamed up on Nike Football Boots, the first book dedicated to the full history of Nike football boots, bringing archival design stories and athlete context into one official volume.

The 240-page hardcover follows Nike’s football journey from the all-black leather boot introduced in the early 1970s through four defining silos: Tiempo, Mercurial, Total 90 and Phantom. Across those chapters, the book maps how material choices, fit, form and performance priorities evolved alongside football culture.

As the official release describes it, Nike Football Boots is "a lavishly illustrated homage to the beautiful game and the legendary footballers who bring it to life — and, of course, the boots they wear."

The volume includes contributions from Caleb Azumah Nelson, Thomas Turner, Eleanor Watson and Claudia Cándano de la Peza, plus a 12-page glossy insert cataloging every boot model from 1971 to today in the Department of Nike Archives boot room, including the new Tiempo model.

When is Nike Football Boots releasing?

Nike Football Boots will release through phaidon.com and select retail locations. The book becomes available on April 10. This timing places the launch at the front end of the spring publishing window for football and design-focused titles. With availability set for April, the release aligns with the seasonal lead-in to major end-of-season football storylines.
