In 1985, Peter Moore designed the Nike Dunk Low to appeal to college basketball programs across the country. What has become of his creation, however, has been a cornerstone for collecting, style and much more.
To celebrate the 37th anniversary of the Nike Dunk Low, Nike Sportswear has released a commemorative collection that also includes a special edition pair that is sure to turn heads. The collection features a shortened form of the Nike Dunk’s launch year on the tongue. The collection also features wacky “NIKE” text on the back, unseen on other pairs before. The Air Jordan 1-reminiscent sole unit maintains the upper’s mostly-two-tone arrangement.
The Nike Dunk was first released in 1985 as a basketball shoe. It was designed to be a more affordable and durable alternative to the company’s flagship Air Jordan line. The Dunk quickly became popular among basketball players and sneakers enthusiasts alike. In the early 2000s, the Dunk was reintroduced as a lifestyle shoe and has since become one of Nike’s most iconic and best-selling products. They have since become a staple for collectors, a symbol of style, and much more – the silhouette has come a long way since its creation, and it is clear that it is not going anywhere anytime soon.
