This week adidas has filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon against sneaker media website Sole Retriever, alleging unauthorized acquisition and publication of confidential sneaker-design materials and an attempt to leverage those materials for preferential access. Information about this court case was initially shared by Kari Daniels, @SNKR_CAP and @sockjig via X (formerly known as Twitter).
The complaint, filed March 12, 2026, pleads two core claims: trade secret misappropriation under the Defend Trade Secrets Act and copyright infringement, with adidas requesting a jury trial. According to the filing, adidas alleges confidential designs were used to pressure the company for additional product information and event access, and then published when those demands were not met.
One section highlights a social post described publicly as a "speculative mock up" of an unreleased Anthony Edwards 2 "Bred" colorway. The brand alleges the image was not speculative, but an internal design image that had been taken without authorization. The court filing also states that in January 2026, adidas was developing the Anthony Edwards 3 and D.O.N. Issue 8 lines and had created confidential CAD (Computer Aided Design) prototype designs for those models. The brand alleges those CAD works were taken and disclosed, further citing a social exchange in which Sole Retriever allegedly said images came "directly from" adidas when asked whether they were legitimate.
The complaint seeks damages, including alleged unjust enrichment, plus injunctive relief barring further use or disclosure of adidas’s claimed confidential materials. Sole Retriever and Monoson had not filed an answer at the time of writing; the allegations remain unproven, and the case will proceed through the federal court process.
