Race day can mean a breakthrough, a personal best or a first starting line. With its new race-day system of speed, Nike is organizing its footwear around the different ambitions and experience levels runners bring to the course.
The lineup brings together Nike Apex, Alphafly 4 and Swooshfly as complementary options rather than steps on a performance ladder. Each shoe has a distinct purpose, giving runners a way to match their race-day footwear to their goals, preferred distance and experience.
Apex is Nike’s most advanced expression of marathon speed, built for runners chasing every possible second. Alphafly 4 balances responsiveness, comfort, stability and efficiency over distance, while Swooshfly is an approachable entry to race day, designed to help runners feel confident, cushioned and ready to take on a new challenge.
The system builds on Nike’s decades of athlete insight and innovation, complementing the brand’s road running lineup with footwear created specifically for race day. Each model began with a runner need, was studied at the Nike Sport Research Lab, and was refined through product development and athlete testing.
Race day is one of the most meaningful moments in a runner’s journey, but that moment looks different for everyone. With Nike Apex, Alphafly 4 and Swooshfly, we created a system that helps runners choose the experience they want on race day, whether that means finding the confidence to step onto a starting line for the first time or chasing every possible second in pursuit of a breakthrough performance.
The approach continues a history stretching from co-founder Bill Bowerman’s handcrafted spikes to the super shoes that reshaped racing more than a decade ago. Nike’s current race-day footwear combines athlete insight, scientific research, Air Zoom platforms, responsive foams and engineered plates to support running economy and performance.
Across the range, Nike aims to address comfort, confidence, efficiency and speed for runners preparing for their first, fastest or farthest race. The company also points runners to Swoosh. Racing for more on the system.
