According to multiple internal documents, Nike is re-releasing the "Varsity Red" color scheme during Fall 2026. The Air Bakin debuted in 1997, and Tim Hardaway wore this red-and-black original before the colorway last returned in 2014, 12 years before its 2026 release.

The pair comes with style code IQ5365-600, an official "Varsity Red / White / Varsity Maize / Black" colorway, a $170 retail price, and is currently expected to release on September 29th, 2026. The upper pairs vivid red overlays with black textile panels and black mesh showing through a series of elongated openings along the sides. Bright yellow laces cut across the black tongue, while narrow white piping traces the sweeping red bands around the quarter and heel. A white Swoosh sits inside a black ankle panel, and the tongues add red Nike Air embroidery for another hit of contrast. The layered panels are heavily outlined with visible stitching, giving the side profile a pronounced, curved rhythm. Underneath, the black sculpted midsole keeps the palette grounded and exposes a clear cushioning window at the heel. The outsole continues the graphic treatment with dense black chevron traction surrounding a translucent red central insert, finished with a yellow Swoosh and Nike Air marking.
